Word of the Day: Preternatural

Tired of using the word “extraordinary”? Try today’s word.

Preternatural [pree-ter-nach-er-uhl, –nach-ruhl] (adj.):

Supernatural; out of the ordinary course of nature; exceptional or abnormal.

His powers were preternatural, but he made the mistake of underestimating the strength of those around him.

  1. I rather think I’d have been more that happy if the schoolmaster all those years ago called me ‘preternatural’ rather than ‘moron.’ What a jolly good word – must use it in a skit!
