How is everybody’s weekend? Hope you’re enjoying it. Here’s a word I thought was beautiful. What do you think?
Maudlin [mawd-lin] (adj.):
very emotional and sentimental.
Example:
He gave a maudlin speech on the importance of finding a cure for cancer.
This is really interesting, I’d always thought of the word as being more negative than this – more about self-pity, moroseness, just from the context I usually find it in. Thanks for sharing 😀
My pleasure 🙂
Sounds nice, yes, but I can’t imagine using it in a contemporary novel.
Love this word too. Makes me think of Morrissey for some reason.
A word not used much these days – my mother, on the other hand used it all the time. Nice post.
